S. LUIGI ORIONE was born in Pontecurone (Alessandria) on 21st of June 1872 and he died in San Remo (Imperia) on 12th of March 1940. Pope Pius XII has defined him as "the father of the poor, a famous benefactor of painful and neglected humanity". He was not a priest yet that he started to found the "Little Institution of Divine Providence", a Congregation composed of priests, lay brethren and Little Missionary Sisters of Charity. The peculiar characteristics of blessed Luigi Orione were charity and devotion to the Church, to the Virgin Mary, to the Pope and to the Poor. Today his Organization is sperad all over the world and his spiritual sons go on living his ideals, on behalf of poor and suffering people, working in different activities: institutes for boys without family support - oratorios - Little Cottolengo - institutes for social recovery and for subnormals - seminaries - hermitages - parich churches - schools - old people's home - missions: it is a very wide working field. The "Gurisaes Project" is an act of the Catholic Church (Sons of Divine Providence Congregation) wich takes care of the needs of more than 200 children from the neighborhood Villa Muñoz - Goes (Montevideo - Uruguay), providing them an alternative choice to the life in the streets by means of a directed recreation program, chatechism, labor shop -carpentry, candy shop, painting-, diary feeding- lunch, snack and dinner- alphabetization, supervised homework, camping, etc. We regret that our website is in spanish.
